Investing In Your Property

Investing In Your Property’s Value
In today’s market place value is important to everyone, and that effects how we spend our hard earned dollars. For property owners on or near lakes, property value is always an issue in how they maintain and improve that investment. Studies show that 50% or more of the value of a lake property can be directly related to the quality and attractiveness of that lake. Retaining and increasing the condition of the value of that natural resource is a simple and effective way to help protect the investment you have made in your property.

Preservation and restoration of natural shorelines is an easy and pure way to help protect lake quality and also invest in your property. Leaving natural vegetation and creating a buffer zone offers many benefits. Buffers filter runoff of nutrients and sediment which all impact lakes in adverse ways. It offers natural habitat for wildlife, and screens your property from prying eyes as well as creates great lake views. They also offer less maintenance to you as a property owner, once they have become established.  Many of us use our lake property as a second home and the more time we have to enjoy them, instead of maintaining them, is always welcome. Combining buffers with natural landscaping around your home can maximize the effectiveness of their purpose.

Along with being responsible property managers there are laws and zoning rules, which govern what can and cannot be done along the shoreline. Local and state shoreline zoning ordinances dictate what actions are allowable. These ordinances are in place to protect the shoreline areas, and knowing all the laws can be difficult. Making sure that you are understanding and following the rules correctly can be a complex puzzle of referring to industry professionals and the government officials that can help you better understand them. As a licensed and insured business, Lakescape Solutions takes the time to research and consult the proper authorities for zoning rules and permits before work is performed.

There are also many beneficial things you can do, without having to own waterfront property. By tailoring your property to match your lifestyle you can get the most out of your investment and benefit your surroundings. Installing a rain garden, native prairies, managing storm water, and using natural/native landscaping, are only a few things you can do to help. Our waterways are the first indicators of misuse and poor land use practices. Reducing our impact on the land will in turn reduce negative impact on our lakes.  Investing in our properties this way helps protect our lake, which increases all our property’s value. Working cooperatively as property owners will help our communities and our lakes.
